Day by day

Four days between the Pacific and the rainforest, eight people, one van and one guide. We follow the tides, walk where the trails are quiet in winter, and sleep three nights by Lake Crescent.

Expect six to ten kilometres a day on easy trails, long lunches out of the wind, and evenings with no plan at all.

  1. Thu
    Ferry, then the Hoh
Bainbridge ferry at 07:45, lunch in Port Angeles, an afternoon under the mossy maples.
  2. Fri
    Rialto Beach at low tide
Out to Hole-in-the-Wall and the sea stacks, tide pools on the way back.
  3. Sat
    Sol Duc falls
A short forest walk to the falls, then the hot springs.
  4. Sat
    Fireside dinner
Salmon and stew at the lodge, maps out for tomorrow.
  5. Sun
    Lake Crescent and home
A dawn paddle if the lake is still, then the ferry back by 18:00.

“Maya timed Rialto to the minute: we walked out to the sea stacks at low tide and had the whole beach to ourselves.”
